Study in India

The Study in India (SII) programme is a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India. The SII portal (www.studyinindia.gov.in ) was officially launched on 18 April 2018 at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, by the former Union Minister for External Affairs, Late Smt. Sushma Swaraj, along with the former Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Dr. Satya Pal Singh.
The programme aims to position India as a leading global education destination by inviting international students to pursue higher education in the country. With a range of attractive features, Study in India serves as an ideal platform for students from across the world to experience the excellence and diversity of Indian education, while exploring quality academic opportunities offered by top Indian universities.
The added advantage of the Study in India Programme is quality assurance wherein it partners up with institutes that:

  • have National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation of 3.26 and above, or
  • are ranked among the top 100 in any category except medical by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), or
  • have the status of Institute of National Importance (INI) or Institute of Eminence (IOE).
The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) is an autonomous body established by the University Grants Commission (UGC), while the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), introduced by the Ministry of Education (MoE) in 2015, provides a structured system for assessing and ranking higher education institutions across India based on parameters such as teaching–learning processes, infrastructure, and learning resources.
As the Study in India programme continues to evolve, its objective is to transcend geographical boundaries and connect with international students aspiring to receive world-class higher education. The programme’s long-term vision is not only to facilitate admissions to India’s premier institutions but also to support the holistic development of international students.
